Erica and James Packer could be Packing up for Vaucluse

Tuesday 23rd June 2009

The Sydney Morning Herald has reported the Packers have bought a sprawling Vaucluse estate with a 1970s-built house designed by architect Guilford Bell.

Situated on a rare three land titles, totaling 2374 sq m, the property has spectacular 180 degree unobstructed views square to the Harbour Bridge, Opera House and city skyline.

The Packers were reportedly negotiating to buy the property through one of their friends so as not to alert the real estate agents to who the real buyer was and keep the price to a minimum.

The couple paid $18 million for the property, which the local council wanted to heritage-list due to its prestigious architecture.

The agents listing information also proclaims the property has “mature landscaping to the East, combined with an elevated position guarantee absolute privacy” – a feature the Packers’ Bondi beachfront apartment just cannot offer.

The Packers and are said to want to knock the Vaucluse house down to rebuild. Interestingly, a large employment ad appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald’s employment section for a Project Manager to oversee work on a “prestigious eastern suburbs house” last Saturday.
